About Us
Community Engagement and Events Division
The events.nsw.gov.au website is an initiative of the Community Engagement and Events Division (CEED) in the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet. The website has been developed to provide a comprehensive resource for organisers of events in NSW.
What we do
Support the Premier
CEED provides management and coordination services for the Premier in special events, official visits, honours and awards, and community programs. The division also supports the Governor in her constitutional, ceremonial and community roles.
A key purpose of CEED is to maximise the economic and social benefits to government of special events in NSW. 'Special events' are those major events that involve government support and investment of government resources, and require specialist central government agency attention e.g. New Year Eve, Remembrance Day, and the NSW Government's involvement in World Youth Day 2008.
Whole-of-government coordination
This is achieved by providing leadership, liaison and coordination across government agencies, and in consultation with other levels of government, and the private and community sectors. Significant experience gained from major events such as the Sydney Olympics and Rugby World Cup has contributed to the state's expertise in major event planning, coordination and implementation.
Deliver special events
CEED manages the planning and delivery of major special events and programs e.g. annual Australia Day events and programs, Olympic Torch Relays, Olympic and Paralympic Welcome Home Parades, Remembrance Day, Discovery After Dark, and the 2006 Queen's Baton Relay. The division's responsibilities with respect to these events and programs also include marketing and communications, corporate relations and sponsorship.
Protocol
Protocol and ceremonial matters are managed by CEED on behalf of the NSW government. This includes planning and conduct of State hospitality functions and major visits by Heads of State, Heads of Government and guests of Government. Advice is provided to the Premier, the Ministry, the Parliament, government departments, the corporate sector and the public on protocol-related matters such as ceremonies, Indigenous ceremonies, forms of address, tables of precedence and flag procedures. The division also provides support to Her Excellency The Governor of NSW in her constitutional, ceremonial and community roles.
Australia Day Council
In addition, CEED provides the secretariat for the Australia Day Council of NSW, the body appointed by the Premier to lead the continued development of Australia Day celebrations across NSW. For more information see www.australiaday.com.au
Honours and awards
CEED also manages honours and awards programs for NSW. These include Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Local Hero Awards, Order of Australia, NSW Government Community Service Awards, NSW Service Medallion, NSW State Representative Certificate, Premier's Emergency Service Award, Meritorious Unit Service Awards, and Royal Humane Awards.
